Putting Old Workhorses Back to Work: Pioneer Power’s Versalift Remount

For utilities like Pioneer Power, remounting is about more than saving money. It’s about keeping the equipment crews already trust
At USSI, we believe good equipment deserves a second tour. That’s exactly what Pioneer Power had in mind when they brought us a well-used Versalift VST40 aerial unit. It had served them faithfully, but the chassis was showing its age and the body had seen better days. Rather than replace the whole unit, they chose to remount — and that’s where we got to work.
The Mission:
Extend the life of a proven aerial. Reinforce it with modern reliability. And return it to service looking and working like new — without the price tag of brand-new.
The Build:
We mounted the VST40 on a brand-new Ford F600 chassis — a workhorse platform known for its muscle and maneuverability. Then, our team stripped down the original BrandFX fiberglass body for a full refurb. That meant updated lighting, new interlock systems, rewired controls, fresh rope lighting, and a black sand paint treatment for both body and tail shelf.
Hydraulics got the full USSI treatment too — new hoses throughout, fresh fluid, new valve boots, a cleaned reservoir, and all the fittings redone for clean, tight performance. Every inch of the boom was inspected, repainted, and rebuilt, from the wear pads to the cat track. We also added new LED work lights, relocated mounts for safety gear, and made sure every switch, decal, and interlock met current standards.

Why It Matters:
For utilities like Pioneer Power, remounting is about more than saving money. It’s about keeping the equipment crews already trust, minimizing training time, and avoiding the long lead times and uncertainties of new builds. A well-executed remount delivers real ROI — and real peace of mind during storm season, outage response, and day-to-day work.
The Result:
A fully reconditioned aerial truck, field-ready and mission-capable. From the boom to the hitch, every component got the attention it deserved. Pioneer Power now has a fleet asset built to run strong for years to come — without breaking the budget.
Thinking about stretching the life of your fleet? Let’s talk. At USSI, we’re proud to stand behind the trucks that keep our communities running.
